It is difficult to find a person who wouldn't dream of living on this paradise Mediterranean island. More and more people are moving to the TRNC to enjoy its beauty and lifestyle. However there are still quite a few myths surrounding North Cyprus. It's high time to lay them to rest. We've collected the most common distorted facts about Northern Cyprus.
REALITY. Not to forget anything while packing a suitcase - this can be a real problem! As for getting to North Cyprus, there are no difficulties or restrictions! The first way is via Turkey by plane or ferry. You will receive a stamp with tourist visa upon arrival.

Alternatively you can come to South Cyprus (Larnaca or Paphos airports) and then take a taxi to North Cyprus. Crossing the border is fast and easy, all you need to do is to show you passport. Nothing complicated!

In both cases, you can stay in the TRNC for 90 days. If you wish to stay on the island for more than 3 months, you can purchase a property and get a residence permit.
MYTH №1: GETTING TO NORTHERN CYPRUS IS PROBLEMATIC
The TRNC is officially recognized by Turkey. Although Cyprus is divided into two parts – Southern and Northern, they have a lot in common, mild climate in particular. At the same time North Cyprus can boast more hospitable residents, more affordable prices (real estate is twice as cheap), richer flora and fauna, more sandy beaches and more historical monuments as compared to the South. The only disadvantage of the unrecognized status of the TRNC is the lack of direct flights (you can get to North Cyprus only via Turkey or South Cyprus). But this fact does not bother either tourists or residents of Northern Cyprus.
MYTH №2: NORTHERN CYPRUS IS AN UNRECOGNIZED TERRITORY
eal estate in South Cyprus is much more expensive. For example, prices for beachfront apartments in Limassol or Paphos start from £130,000. In North Cyprus you can buy a studio apartment for £35,000, a penthouse for £60,000, and a villa for £100,000.

More than 50% of the TRNC properties are sold off-plan. Annual capital growths for real estate in North Cyprus is 5-10%.

MYTH №3: BUYING A PROPERTY IN NORTH CYPRUS IS NOT AS PROFITABLE AS IN SOUTH CYPRUS
REALITY. Any foreigner can purchase a property or a plot of land up to 1,300 sq. m. There are also a number of preferences given to foreigners buying real estate in North Cyprus. For example, when you buy your first property in the TRNC, the title deed transfer tax is reduced from usual 6% to 3%.

Your permission to purchase will not be granted if you have a criminal record or your property is located within 100 meters to a military base. According to the laws of the TRNC, a foreigner can register a title deed into his/her name for only one property. If you wish to purchase more than one property, the title deeds can be registered in the names of your relatives or a Cypriot company.
FOREIGNERS PURCHASING A PROPERTY IN NORTH CYPRUS FACE A LOT OF RESTRICTIONS
REALITY. On March 5, 2010, the European Court of Human Rights adopted Decision No. 186, signed by the EU countries, including Greece. The document is about the creation of a compensation committee in the TRNC. It allows Greek Cypriots to address their land claims to the committee and receive either monetary compensation or a similar plot of land in South Cyprus. Since then, the compensation committee deals with all the issues and the interests of foreigners buying in North Cyprus are fully protected. So called dangers of buying in North Cyprus are nothing but just a myth!
MYTH №5: GREEK CYPRIOTS CAN CLAIM BACK THE LAND THAT YOU'VE PURCHASED
REALITY. Such entry, from the point of view of the immigration rules of the Republic of Cyprus, is illegal. If you get to Southern Cyprus in this way and try to leave it through the airports or seaports of the Greek part, you will be contacted by the migration service and subsequently blacklisted. When you next apply to the Consulate of Cyprus, you will be refused a visa. According to the legislation of Southern Cyprus, those tourists who entered the territory of Southern Cyprus and left the island through Northern Cyprus also violate the law. In the future, you may have problems with obtaining a Cyprus visa and entering the Greek part of the island.
MYTH №6: YOU CAN OBTAIN FOR A CYPRUS VISA, BUT FLY TO NORTHERN CYPRUS, AND THEN ENTER SOUTHERN CYPRUS BY DRIVING
REALITY. The dominant religion in Northern Cyprus is Islam, but Turkish Cypriots are not particularly religious. You will not find a single Cypriot woman wearing a burqa, only visitors from Turkey. There are many Orthodox churches in North Cyprus: The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Arapkoy, The Church of St. George in Kyrenia, Apostles Andreas Monastery, and others. There are also a huge number of holy places here. In North Cyprus no one will impose Islam on you. The first article of Constitution proclaims the TRNC a secular state. Turkish Cypriots are free to choose their religion. Studying Islam in schools is not compulsory. You may choose who to believe in and which temple to visit.
MYTH №7: TURKISH CYPRIOTS LIVE UNDER STRICT ISLAMIC LAW
There are soldiers in North Cyprus just like in any other country. Turkish troops are responsible for the security of the TRNC. However you will not see any armed soldiers patrolling the streets. There hasn't been a single military conflict on the territory of the TRNC over the last 20 years. In addition, Turkey is a member of NATO, which aims to preserve peace and security. To fight with Northern Cyprus means to fight with NATO. Who would dare to do this? Today, the TRNC is considered one of the the safest countries in Europe! Would you like to feel safe and not to be afraid for the lives of your family members? Moving to North Cyprus is the best choice!
MYTH №6: THE TURKISH ARMY SOLDIERS ARE PREPARING FOR A WAR WITH SOUTH CYPRUS.
